Chilham
13 June 2010
The walk was a gently undulating 8ish miles through parkland, arable fields and woodland tracks with some lovely views along the way.
We walked through the village square with the gates to Chilham Castle at one end, the church at the other and various Tudor and Jacobean houses around the outside, then headed along part of the North Downs Way up into Kings Wood. We then descended into the Godmersham Park estate and past Godmersham House which was owned by Edward Austin-Knight, brother of Jane Austen. We then headed back towards Chilham along part of the Stour Valley Walk, through fields and woodland. Finally we passed Chilham Mill on the Great Stour River before ending back at the village square.
